Avon and Casa

Saturday the 17th, my mom called to tell us that the puppy she was supposed to get from my sister was dead. It apparently chewed on a cord and was electrocuted. Kaitlynn and I delivered Avon and then met my mom and Aunt Tommy at my grandma's. My mom seemed to be doing OK with the news about the puppy. Dave met us at my grandma's and we all went to Casa Gallardo for dinner. My Uncle Dale, grandma and Aunt Sue had never ate at Casa before. We had a good dinner.


Later that night I baked some banana nut muffins in my heart silicone muffin baking pan.
They turned out pretty good.

Monkey Joe's and The Magic House

Friday the 16th, we went to Monkey Joe's with some friends. We met Tara and Bailey and Kim and McKenzie there. The girls had a good time. There was actually a few areas that were just for toddlers. Of course the girls wanted to play in the bigger kids areas, too.

Kaitlynn and Bailey loved sitting in the car. Except both wanted to turn the steering wheel. At one point, Bailey had her hands on the wheel and was head butting Kaitlynn and Kaitlynn had her hands on the wheel and was trying to bite Bailey.

Kaitlynn met this girl (who was probably about 6 years old) and they became instant friends. Kaitlynn won her over with a hug. She went with Kaitlynn in the big kid areas. They were climbing up this to get to a slide and Kaitlynn couldn't get up it as fast as the 6 year old, so this bigger girl (I guess she was 10 years old) helped her. I waited and waited what seemed like forever for them to come down from the slide. Just as I was about to freak out, I saw the 10 year old. But wait, Kaitlynn wasn't with her and the 10 year old was crying. I ran over to her and asked her where the little girl was, she said she was still up on top. I was totally freaking out and about to go in after her, when this other girl said her and her friend would go get Kaitlynn. I told her to hurry up. Then thankfully when I looked back in the 6 year old had brought her down. Kaitlynn was fine. I was about to have a heart attack. There were some really big kids there and some of them were kind of rough.

After Monkey Joe's, we went to my mom's. My mom was at work, but my Aunt Tommy came over. She was staying with my mom over the weekend.

We met Dave at The Magic House. They offered free admission so we wanted to take advantage of it. We hadn't taken Kaitlynn yet, but didn't want to pay $7.50 for each of us to get in.
Kaitlynn's name is on the constitution!

We had a good time and it wasn't too crowded with the free admissions. I think we will definitely go back on another free night.

By the way, McDonald's has free lattes on Fridays. I took advantage of this great offer several times!! They are really good. I like the hazelnut and the caramel.

Toddler Fun and McDonald's

Thursday the 15th, Kaitlynn and I attended the first Toddler Fun class at the Early Childhood Center. It was a really neat class. The theme was Wheels on the Bus. This kids first have free time, then circle time where welcome songs are sang. Then the kids go to the tables to do art type activities, like putting cars / trucks in blue pant and driving them on paper. They also had this flat surface that you put a piece of paper on and then spin it while holding a crayon or marker. After that the kids enjoyed playing on cozy coupe cars, climbing, sliding and rolling cars down a pipe. Then it was snack time. They had graham crackers and water. During snack time the teacher read a story, Wheels on the Bus. Then it was circle time again. We sang ring around the rosie while holding onto this expandable rope, shook scarves to a song, and then sang good-bye songs. Kaitlynn's friend Bailey is also in the class. I think Kaitlynn enjoyed it. I know I did.

After class we went to my mom's. My mom, Elliott, Kaitlynn and I went to McDonald's for lunch and to play. After eating and playing, we did some shopping. While at McDonald's I heard these 2 ladies talking about jobs. I totally tried to recruit them to sell Avon. I gave them my business card and expected to hear back from them. They probably thought I was crazy.

New Year's Eve

Wednesday December 31st, Kaitlynn and I went to Tara and Bailey's. They hosted the playdate for the Mommy and Toddler Playgroup. Trisha and Kylie came over too. The girls were in rare form. They were fighting over everything. They wanted whatever toy the other one was playing with.

My mom watched Kaitlynn for a little bit so Dave and I could go to Happy Hour at Casa Gallardo. We rang in the New Year by sleeping. We were in bed and fast asleep by midnight.

Even though 2008 was one hell of a year (and not in a good way), I was kind of sad to see it end. This was the last year that my dad lived. This was the last year that I saw my dad and that Kaitlynn got to know him. I wish I could start 2008 all over again and have a different outcome. I started 2008 with a father and ended it without one. I never saw that one coming. I never thought 2008 would be such a devastating year. Good riddens 2008!

First Prefold Experience

This morning I decided to brave the prefolds. The first time I changed Kaitlynn's diaper, I used the newspaper fold for the Chinese Prefold. I liked how easy this was. I thought that it would make Kaitlynn's bottom look bigger and bulkier, but it didn't look too much different than the bumGenius.

Next diaper change, I decide to try a different fold for the Chinese Prefold (since the newspaper fold was so easy). I used the angel wing fold and secured it with a snappi. This was not so easy because Kaitlynn did not want to lay still long enough for me to get it on right.
This picture was taken when I was getting ready to change her diaper. The prefold was soaked and she leaked out of it. As you can see from the photo, I didn't do such a good job on the angle wing fold. It didn't cover her too well and was too loose. I will need much more practice with this fold. I went back to the bumGenuis diapers for the rest of the day.

Venturing into Prefolds

Yesterday I went to Cotton Babies to purchase one of their diaper packages, The "Try It" Kit. This package includes 6 prefolds, 2 diaper covers and a snappi. I got 6 Chineses Unbleached Prefold diapers, 2 Bummis Super Whisper Wraps in froggy pond and jungle, and a red Snappi. I also bought some used bumGenius 3.0 one size cloth diapers and some one size inserts. I think I have plenty of cloth diapers now. I am excited to try the prefolds. I also have some Birdseye Prefold diapers that I should be able to use with the diaper covers. I washed all the new diapers and am ready to try them out. I may not be too excited after trying them out, as I have heard that there is a learning curve with prefolds. It should be pretty interesting. Kaitlynn hates getting her diaper changed most of the time now. At Cotton Babies, they said it is a good time to get Kaitlynn into the prefolds because she will actually feel wetness. They said with the bumGenius diapers she doesn't feel the wetness. The prefolds will help with getting her ready to potty train. I am not trying to potty train her now, she is too young. But apparently the prefolds will help.
